Stain Removal Guide
Accidents happen, but don't worry if you spill something on your felt product. Our placemats are resistant to staining, and most spills can be easily treated. Below are some common stains and how to handle them.
Water
Good news! Water won't harm felt. In fact, felt's ability to wick away moisture is one reason our coasters are so effective. Simply let your product air dry. If needed, lay it flat with some weight on top to help the wool fibers stay in place.
Wine, Oil, and Food
- Start by thoroughly wetting the stain with a mixture of warm water and mild detergent.
- Gently massage the area to loosen the fibers, then wait 2-3 minutes.
- Firmly pat (do not rub) the area with an absorbent paper towel to remove moisture.
- Repeat these steps as needed until the stain begins to fade.
- Rinse the area and repeat until the detergent is completely gone.
- Finally, pat the surface dry and lay it flat to air dry.
Dry Stains
For dry stains, a lint roller is your best friend. A few passes with a good adhesive roller can significantly reduce dry stains and refresh the appearance of your felt product. Regular use will keep your items looking like new.
Mud
If you get mud on your felt bag, the key is patience. Allow the mud to dry completely—it’s easier to remove dry dirt than wet. Once dry, gently tap the felt to dislodge any remaining dust. Finish by lightly vacuuming the area. Yes, a vacuum! It might sound odd, but it works wonders.
Everyday Maintenance
Will the felt start to pill?
Pilling is generally not an issue with the felt used in our products. This high-quality felt is dense and made from long fibers, so pilling is rare. However, if you notice minor pilling on the surface or edges of your product, a few gentle circular passes with a home fabric shaver should do the trick.
Can felt lose its shape?
Under certain conditions, such as exposure to moisture combined with pressure from a heavy or angular object inside the bag, the felt may slightly lose its shape.
To restore it, lightly run a steamer or iron over the affected area. After a few passes of 2 to 3 seconds each, the felt should start to smooth out. Use minimal heat and fewer passes to avoid damage. Gently using your fingertips to help flatten the area can also be effective.
Can I dry clean it?
Dry cleaning is an excellent option for refreshing your bag, especially from season to season. Since many of our designs combine felt with leather, we strongly recommend taking your item to a cleaner who specializes in leather care.
Can I machine-wash my felt products?
Absolutely not—please don’t do it.
